What is bipolar disorder?

Bipolar disorder — sometimes called manic-depressive disorder — is associated with mood swings that range from the lows of depression to the highs of mania. When you become depressed, you may feel sad or hopeless and lose interest or pleasure in most activities. When your mood shifts in the other direction, you may feel euphoric and full of energy. Mood shifts may occur only a few times a year, or as often as several times a day. In some cases, bipolar disorder causes symptoms of depression and mania at the same time. Signs of bipolar disorder can include difficulty sleeping, risky behavior, racing thoughts, and high energy, among others. Contact Young Minds for bipolar disorder treatment in Sandy Springs.

What is ADHD?

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is one of the most common childhood disorders and can continue through adolescence and adulthood. Symptoms include difficulty staying focused and paying attention, difficulty controlling behavior, and hyperactivity (over-activity). Young Minds Psychiatry can help you identify the proper treatment for your or your family member’s ADHD. Contact Young Minds Psychiatry for ADHD treatment in Sandy Springs.

What is depression?

Clinical depression goes by many names — depression, “the blues,” biological depression, major depression. But it all refers to the same thing: feeling sad and depressed for weeks or months on end (not just a passing blue mood). This feeling is most often accompanied by feelings of hopelessness, a lack of energy (or feeling “weighed down”), and taking little or no pleasure in things that gave you joy in the past. SIgns of depression can include persistent sad, anxious, or “empty” mood, and feelings of hopelessness or pessimism. A person who is depressed also often has feelings of guilt, worthlessness, and helplessness. They no longer take interest or pleasure in hobbies and activities that were once enjoyed; this may include things like going out with friends. Insomnia, early-morning awakening and oversleeping are all common. Contact Young Minds for depression treatment in Sandy Springs.
