ELECTRIC SHOCK THERAPY
Finding the right help
What is ECT?
(Electric Shock Therapy) no other modality can come close to ECT for antidepressant/anti psychotic efficacy and speed of response.
- It has been utilized in acute depression, treatment-resistant depression (failing two antidepressants), schizophrenia, catatonia, bipolar depression and autistic patients with SIB.
- Response rate for ECT is about 83 %, remission rate for depression with ECT is about 56%.
Medication can be a valuable part of treatment for some conditions. When areas of the brain are over-stimulated/under-stimulated, may respond poorly to therapy. The brain chemistry maybe out of balance, being on the proper medication can improve the results of therapy. Each person is unique, not every person requires medication.
