A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder. When fears and anxieties continue to go unaddressed, problems can arise. While many parents hope their child will outgrow a certain anxiety, sometimes the opposite occurs, and it becomes more prevalent. Anxiety can develop into a phobia or a fear that is extreme, severe, and persistent. A phobia can be very difficult to deal with, both for children and their parents, especially if whatever is causing the anxiety is something that occurs naturally and hard to avoid (thunderstorms, for example).
